PML-N MPs' motion against PCB chief

ISLAMABAD The major opposition party PML-N and Defence Minister Ch Ahmed Mukhtar are likely to lock horns over an unfolding scam that allegedly involves some players of the national cricket team in match spot-fixing, sources said on Monday. Well-placed political sources informed TheNation that Federal Minister for Defence Ch Ahmed Mukhtar is believed to have jumped into the foray after some members of the PML-N submitted an adjournment motion on Monday seeking to discuss the issue on the floor of the National Assembly. Sources said that the Defence Minister stepped up efforts prompted by the PML-Ns move ostensibly in a bid to protect his brother-in-law Ijaz Butt the incumbent Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board from potential fall out of the scam. As many as seven MNAs from the PML-N including Hanif Abbasi, Mohammad Asad, Nisar Tanvir, Sherin Arshad Khan, Nazhat Sadiq and Nighat Perveen signed and submitted the adjournment motion in National Assembly Secretariat. Through their motion they sought to discuss it as an important national issue as the allegations of match-fixing against members of Pakistan cricket team have lowered the image of entire nation and the country.
