LAHORE The European Union will get verified the reports about the discovery of mass graves in Indian Held Kashmir, a senior EU diplomat said here on Tuesday. Mr Pierre Mayaudon, deputy head of EU delegation in Islamabad, said while talking to TheNation that before offering any official comment on the report, the EU would like to gather accurate information. He said a comment in the absence of an authentic information would affect the EUs credibility. Mass graves of over 2,000 people have recently been discovered in occupied Kashmir. The APHC leaders have drawn the world communitys attention to the situation in Indian Held Kashmir. The EU diplomat was asked why the bloc of 27 countries was keeping silent over the situation in spite of its sensitivity to human rights. Mr Mayaudon said it was true that the EU was concerned about the human rights issues anywhere in the world, including Pakistan. It was for this reason, he said, that it had arranged a big gathering in Islamabad for the rights and security of journalists working in the Islamic Republic. Ill not agree that we ignore the human rights situation in the India Held Kashmir. He said as for the specific information about the discovery of mass graves in Indian Held Kashmir, he would look into it. When suggested that the EU was not playing its role for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute despite the fact that it had been taking very keen interest in other resolutions passed by the world body, Mr Mayaudon said: Its exaggeration. He said on a number of occasions the EU leaders encouraged both Pakistan and India to find a solution to the dispute. Saying that we do nothing is exaggeration. He said the EU was making whatever contribution it could make. But, he made it clear that that EU did not have a magic solution. The EU diplomat said the atmosphere between Pakistan and India was much better today after Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khars recent visit to New Delhi. He hoped that the situation would improve further when the commerce ministers of the two nuclear neighbours met in the near future. The world community has consistently been telling Pakistan to resolve the dispute through bilateral talks with India. The fact is that there has been no headway even after six decades of bilateral efforts. Why the EU doesnt take the UN resolution on Kashmir as seriously as it considers other resolutions, especially which are against any Muslim state? Also, please shed some light on what should Pakistan do in the situation? he was asked. The Deputy Head of EU Delegation said as a newcomer to Pakistan he was not in a position to say anything on what Pakistan should do. However, he said, the EU could convey a message whenever a party was willing to widen the scope of the process. Asked whether the EU believed that the United States would quit Afghanistan by the end of 2014, as already announced by President Obama, Mr Mayaudon said he said he said he would not like any comment on the issue. However, he said, the EU was concerned about the situation in the war-ravaged state and would evaluate the situation before the end of the year. The EU diplomat also met TheNation Editor Majid Nizami and Managing Director Rameeza Majid Nizami.
