NGO plans to highlight torture in police custody

ISLAMABAD – Aimed to create awareness and sensitisation on the issue of torture in police custody across the country, Individulland Pakistan, is hosting a two-day national workshop for journalists across the country.
The workshop is the culmination of a long sensitisation process for the media on the issue of torture. IL-Pakistan, a non-profit organisation, joined hands with Foundation Open Society Institute (FOSI) to run a series of workshops in 11 cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Quetta and Pishin.
The objective of the initiative is to sensitise the media on the subject of torture and help eradicate the practice of torture from the state structures. The training focused on the criminal justice system, understandings of legal and human rights activists on the subject of torture.
