ORAKZAI AGENCY - Elders of seven main tribes in Orakzai Agency Thursday urged the government to send Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their homes within a month, as they said there was now complete peace in their respective localities.

About 500 elders mainly belonging to seven tribes - Sheikhan, Mushti, Akhel, Rabikhel, Ali Khel, Mullah Khel and Buland Khel - met Political Agent of the agency at agency headquarters Babar Mela. Prominent among them were Malak Sabil Khan, Malak Jan Mir, Malak Ismail, Malak Maroof Gul, Malak Amanullah and Lal Zada.

The elders jirga made it clear to the political administration of the agency that most of the areas in upper tehsil of Orakzai Agency has been cleared of militants one-year back.

However, unknown people have broken locks of house and looted millions rupees of valuables from the houses.

So, the jirga demanded of the government to send IDPs back to their homes within a month. They would draw future line of action after the expiry of the deadline, the jirga added. Besides, the jirgal expressed dissatisfaction over political administration’s role.

The jirga asked govt to make arrangements for their return home back and appoint a political agent in the agency who they said were well aware of tribal costumes and traditions.
