MULTAN - Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) President Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar warned on Thursday that the farmers will besiege and occupy office of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) Chief Executive if electricity to villages in NA-148 was not restored within two days.

Addressing a news conference here at Multan Press Club on Thursday, he added that the farmers had formed a 'danda force' to put right the Mepco Chief Executive and the occupy office movement would be launched after two days. He lamented that the Mepco officials included thousands of electricity units illegally in the bills of tube-well consumers and despite repeated requests the bills were not rectified. "When we lodged protest, an XEN Umar Lodhi crushed two poor farmers under his car as a result of which both of them got seriously injured," he claimed. He declared that the PKI would get registered a case against the Mepco Chief Executive and Umar Lodhi and in case of any resistance the farmers would march to Lahore.

He added that the Mepco shut down the feeders supplying electricity to their area as a result of which the villagers were facing acute water shortage.

He demanded the government to deliver electricity bills to the farmers according May 2011 tariff, withdraw hike in tariff, eliminate GST and FPA from the bills.

He pointed out that the input of the farmers had doubled over last two years while the output went down by 100 per cent. He lamented that the electricity price registered a five time increase while the rate of Urea rose by 112 per cent and diesel 114 per cent while on the other hand the rate of phutti went down by Rs2,950.
