ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Thursday decided to ban the use of mobile phones in the courtrooms by lawyers and the journalists.

Registrar Supreme Court in a meeting with the delegation of Press Association of Supreme Court (PAS), headed by its President Ghulam Nabi and comprised Irfan Khan, Terence J Sigamony, Nasir Iqbal and Kamran Khan said that IED system has been installed in the courtroom, which could ignite on coming or going of call from the mobile phones.

He said therefore the SC administration has decided to ban the use of phones in the courtrooms of the apex court. The PAS delegation assured the court to cooperate with the apex court administration.

The ban on use of mobiles in courtrooms would apply from September 3, 2012. During meeting the PAS members complained about the low quality of sound system in the courtrooms. They said due to bad sound system they could not clearly hear judges remarks and lawyers arguments. The registrar assured to rectify the problems and facilitate the journalists.
