KARACHI – Scores of residents of Lyari took to the streets against the arrest of innocent people in an operation conducted by the Sindh Rangers on last Sunday.

Sources said that hundreds of enraged people came out of their houses and staged a protest and a sit-in following an intense shooting carried out by a group of gangsters primarily to suspend commercial and routine activities.

The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans for the release of the people detained by the Rangers. The demonstrators also kept main Maripur Road blocked for several hours, causing a heavy traffic jam in the area.

They also pelted stones on passing vehicles and set tyres afire. A massive contingent of law forcers was moved into the area to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, the law forcers managed to placate the protest after long negotiations.
