RAWALPINDI – A surprise visit was paid by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal to tyre markets, junkyards, CNG stations, petrol pumps and godowns to check precautionary measures against possible threat of dengue virus.

He instructed TMA Rawal Town officials on the spot to seal two junkyard godowns on the violation of government instructions in connection with dengue virus. He also directed to challan two tyre shops situated on Babu Lal Hussain Road on placing tyres out of their shops.

The officials of Health Department, EDO Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal, DO Health/Incharge Dengue spray campaign Dr Ansar Ishaq and officials of TMA Rawal Town accompanied the Commissioner.

The commissioner also visited Dhoke Hassu, Commercial Market, Satellite Town, Pir Vidhai Road and found that there was stagnant water in the fire fighting equipments placed on CNG stations and petrol pumps. He showed annoyance on this and directed the Civil Defence department to check these equipments on daily basis. He also directed to issue warning notices to such CNG stations and petrol pumps. He also directed the managements of CNG stations and petrol pumps that like private schools, they should arrange dengue spray on their places on their own and observed precautionary measures.

The commissioner said on the occasion that these steps were being taken to save the citizens from the dangerous attack of dengue. He further said that in case of presence of water in tyres and puncture shops in drums, buckets, dengue larvae is flourished which is injurious to life and health of the people serving there and the citizens of surrounding areas and there was a bright chance to be effected by dengue. Precautionary measures in this connection should be followed in letter and spirit and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, like other government run departments, Rawalpindi Police have also launched anti-dengue campaign in the district.

In this regard a special team has been constituted under the supervision of DSP Headquarters, which will carry out the spray at all the police station, offices of police high ups, Police Line and all such places where Dengue Larva might be grown or survived.

Similarly, all the useless tyres that have been kept at Police Line would be disposed off to avoid possible grow of Dengue virus. City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher, following the instructions of Punjab government, had directed all the SPs, DSPs and SHOs to display banners and posters at all visible places besides dolling out pamphlets to create awareness among the students and general public to create awareness against the deadliest virus, informed police spokesman Inspector Raja Fayyaz here on Thursday.

Similarly, a seminar will also be held at Police Line Number 1 to teach the police officials as how they could safe themselves from Dengue fever, he added. According to him, CPO Azhar Hameed Khokher and SSP (Operations) Dr Akhter Abbas conducted spray at the flowerpots and other places in the premises of their offices to stop growing process of larva.
