LAHORE - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday discussed the situation with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif after announcement of PTI and PAT to move towards the Prime Minister House.
The prime minister was at his Raiwind residence where he held talks by telephone with Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan to take updates from them on the protest march and discuss the situation. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also interacted with the prime minister on the latest situation.
The PML-N spokesman denied the TV reports ascribed to some ‘unnamed’ PML-N leaders on their suggestion to the prime minister to go on leave for a month during which the judicial commission would complete the probe into the rigging charges.
The spokesman said no such suggestion came to the prime minister nor was anything of this kind under consideration and that the prime minister was not going to resign.
Political Secretary to PM Dr Asif Kirmani said the prime minister would not resign as he was leading a party which got more than 15 million votes in the last election.
He stated people, civil society, parliament, lawyers and religious leaders were with the prime minister and his government had a thumping majority in the house.
He said those showing hostility with the prime minister, in fact, were against the country. He added the sit-ins were damaging the economy of the country hard.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said the commission should be allowed to probe the rigging allegations and the assemblies would be dissolved if the charges were proven. He said if rigging was established by the Supreme Court commission, no justification would be left for the continuation of the present assemblies.
