ISLAMABAD - The National Book Foundation (NBF) has started distributing forms across the country to register 0.5 million book lovers under its Book Volunteers project to promote reading habits in a unique way.

Under the project, volunteers will be kept informed regarding NBF new publications and various book promotional activities through SMS and e-mail and invite them in different functions and ceremonies of NBF. Those eligible will have the privilege to buy NBF’s monthly magazine “Kitab” at 50 percent discount and annual subscription for them will be Rs 300 only with 33 percent discount.

The manuscripts authored by volunteers will be considered for printing as per NBF’s policy on priority basis while the suggestions of volunteers regarding book promotional activities, bookshops and publicity will be given due consideration, honour and attention.

The NBF in consultation with volunteers will arrange book exhibitions while a total of 0.5 million volunteers will be registered in the first phase across the country and cards will be issued to them to facilitate the book lovers, said Managing Director NBF, Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javeid while talking to APP.

The initiatives of NBF primarily focus on involving readers frequently to get feedback on improving the ongoing projects and taking new initiatives for promoting the love for book reading for enrichment of our social, cultural and intellectual life and strengthening the cause of peace, harmony, tolerance in society and promote the book culture in the country, he said.

The foundation is receiving a very positive response from the parents, teachers, students and readers on its various programmes. Besides, promoting reading habit, the NBF encourages the overall book industry, help increasing literacy rate, create reasonable demand for good quality reading material and motivating young generation towards developing reading culture in the society.
