ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar alleged Sindh Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) chairman Dr Asim of backing fake medical colleges and provision of bogus degrees.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad she vowed for extended cooperation with law enforcers who are investigating Asim for alleged fraud.

“The alleged culprit has also been removed from the presidency of Nursing Council,” she added.

Saira said that cases would be forwarded to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding alleged embezzlement in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) management. Tarar said that Dr Shaista is not legal registrar but Dr Nadeem Akbar is.

“The state minister vowed to get PMDC Ordinance approved by the Parliament. It is a mere coincidence that the Ordinance came to light when Dr Asim was arrested,” she added.

Tarar said that PMDC members’ number would be cut to 35 from 81. The total of 35 members would have at least 20 elected while 15 honorary representatives. She further said that all provinces would be given representation in PMDC on equality basis.
