JHELUM/VEHARI-The polling for by-elections for the constituencies NA-63 Jhelum-II and PP-232 Vehari-I will be held on Wednesday (today).
According to the Punjab Election Commission, a total of 427,757 registered voters will cast their vote in the by-election to NA-63 Jhelum-II. The ECP has set up 314 polling stations comprising 976 polling booths (male 514, female 462).
Four candidates including Raja Matloob Mehdi of the PML-N, Jahangir Mahmood Mirza of the PPP, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain of the PTI and Dewan Hashmat Hayat of the PML-Q are in the run for the National Assembly seat. Earlier, five other candidates had withdrawn their nomination papers.
The ECP has deployed 314 presiding officers, 976 assistant presiding officers and 976 polling officers to supervise the election.
It is to be noted that the seat fell vacant after the death of PML-N MNA Malik Iqbal Mehdi who had won the NA-63 seat by getting 116,013 votes in the general elections 2013.
In PP-232 Vehari-I, there are 11 candidates including Chaudhry Arsalan Shaukat Saselia (Symbol Batsman), Ch Tahir Naqqash Jutt (Sheep), Chaudhry Abid Ali Kaselia (Deep Freezer), Ch Abdul Saboor Arain (Well), Ch Ghulam Mustafa Jutt (Goat), Ch Muhammad Yousaf Kaselia (Tiger), Mohtarma Aysha Nazir Jutt (Bat), Muhammad Rafiq Nizami Advocate (Bucket), Mirza Mehboob Rabani (Deer), Malik Rashid Faraaz Awan (Bottle) and Nazeer Ahmad Basit (Dhol) are in the run for the seat.
There are a total of 191,092 registered voters in the constituency for which 157 polling stations comprising 365 polling booths, both male and female, have been established.
The ECP has deployed 157 presiding officers, 365 assistant presiding officers and 365 polling officers to supervise the electoral process.
