LAHORE - The Lahore High Court registrar office yesterday removed its objection earlier put on a petition seeking cancellation of MQM’s registration as a political party.

The LHC registrar fixed it for hearing before the chief justice, after Aftab Virk re-filed the petition after meeting some requirements pointed out by the office.

The petitioner submitted that a political party registered in Pakistan has to be loyal to the country. However, he stated, recent statements of MQM chief Altaf Hussain established that Muttahida Qaumi Movement was not faithful to Pakistan.

He requested the court to order the election commission to cancel MQM’s registration as a political party. The chief justice would take up the petition tomorrow.
