LHC seeks reply over Income Tax Ordinance

The Lahore High Court sought reply from the federal government and the Federal Board of Revenue in a petition challenging Income Tax Ordinance 2016 which gave powers to the FBR to collect tax on houses/homes.

Shahid Jami advocate, in his petition, submitted that the federal government issued Income Tax Ordinance 2016 and gave powers to the FBR to collect from the citizens on their moveable and immovable properties after their evaluation. “Citizens are already paying huge taxes and the government cannot impose further tax,” the petitioner held.

He pleaded the court to set aside the ordinance.

After hearing initial arguments, Justice Mirza issued notices to the federal government and FBR and sought reply, and adjourned further hearing till Sept 23.
