Islamabad-President Mamnoon Hussain has called for proactive diplomacy to draw the attention of the world toward gross human rights violations and atrocities being committed by Indian security forces against innocent Kashmiris in the Held Kashmir.

Talking to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr yesterday, the President called for actively pursuing the Kashmir cause at various international forums.

The President said Pakistan’s concern about the alarming situation in Indian Held Kashmir in the backdrop of fundamental rights violations and extra-judicial killings by Indian forces should be forcefully highlighted. He hoped that the parliamentarians recently appointed as special envoys will effectively highlight the brutalities by Indian security forces in Jammu & Kashmir and will garner international support for the right of self-determination for the people of occupied Kashmir in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi briefed the President about international issues with particular reference to the regional situation.

Earlier, while talking to Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan who also called on him, the President reiterated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic, political and moral support to the oppressed Kashmiris in their struggle against foreign occupation.

Strongly condemning the ongoing Indian brutalities in the held Kashmir, the President emphasized that Pakistan will continue to use diplomatic channel to draw the attention of the international community toward grave human rights violations by the Indian security forces.

The President stressed that peace will remain elusive in the region unless the decades old issue of Kashmir is resolved. He congratulated Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan on being elected as Prime Minister of AJ&K and hoped that under his sagacious leadership the newly elected public representatives will work with dedication for the well being of the people.

The President expressed his satisfaction at the successful holding of recent election in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and smooth transition of power to the next elected government. He advised AJ&K Prime Minister to focus on providing all basic facilities to the people of AJ&K to further improve their standard of life.

The President emphasised for ensuring good governance and transparency in carrying out all development projects and their timely completion.

The Prime Minister Azad Jammu & Kashmir apprised the President about various development initiatives and expressed commitment to work devotedly for the welfare of the people of the region.

President Mamnoon Hussain wished the newly elected Prime Minister AJ&K well in discharge of his new responsibilities.
