The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that it would begin online registration of Overseas Pakistanis, for voting, from Saturday, which will continue till the 15th of next month.
ECP Director General Public Relations Nadeem Qasim, while talking to media in Islamabad on Friday, said that overseas Pakistanis - possessing valid machine-readable passports - can get themselves registered as voters within the given time.
He said that after the due date, the voter lists will be handed over to the concerned returning officers and the names of the overseas voters would be counted out. Qasim said that it is very difficult for such voters to manually cast their vote in Pakistan.
He said that this online voting registration system has been developed with the cooperation between ECP and NADRA.
To a question, he said that this was a pilot project and overseas Pakistanis can register their votes to exercise their right to franchise in upcoming by-elections across Pakistan.
Qasim further said that over 700,000 overseas Pakistanis will be able to get their vote registered through the newly developed system.
