KASUR - An alleged Proclaimed Offender was shot dead by his own accomplices, during a exchange of firing with the local police party, here on Sunday night, near Noorpur Canal Bridge, in the limits of Chunian police station.Police arrested Proclaimed Offender Sharafat alias Kaka, some days back and the accused was on judicial remand. PO Kaka was wanted by Chunian, Illahabad, and Kanganpur police in 17 cases of kidnapping for ransom, car-snatching, dacoities cum murder and robberies. A police party headed by SI Bashir Ahmed was on its way with the accused for recovery.  When the police party reached near Noorpur Canal Bridge, a truck loaded with sugarcane was parked in the middle of the road. When the police van stopped, nine accused tried to free the arrested Proclaimed Offender and opened fire at the police party. During the fire exchange, the arrested accused Kaka was shot at and injured by the bullet of his own accomplice. Police rushed the injured to THQ Hospital Chunian where he succumbed to his injuries. The accused managed to escape from the scene.DPO Kasur, constituted a team headed by Inspector Malik Tariq for the arrest of the accused.
