QUETTA – Balochistan Assembly in its important session on Monday (today) will elect its new speaker and deputy speaker.

The slot of Speaker assembly had fallen vacant on 26th Dec when Muhammad Aslam Bhootani was ousted from office through a no-trust resolution. The provincial lawmakers had approved the no-trust move with a thumping majority.

However, Bhootani expressing his serious reservations on the procedure of his expulsion from speakership had challenged it in Balochistan High Court. The LHC will hear the petition on the same day on Monday.

Reliable sources told TheNation that Deputy Speaker Matiullah Agha of JUI-F is likely to be elected as new speaker as consensus among coalition partners in this regard has been evolved while Dr Fouzia Marri of Balochistan National Party (Awami) will be elected as deputy speaker.

Meanwhile, a meeting of parliamentary leaders of Balochistan coalition government was held with Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani in chair on Sunday. The meeting, besides discussing host of other issues, also exchanged views on election of speaker, deputy speaker and election on a vacant Senate seat.

Parliamentary leaders of different parties, including Maulana Abdul Wasay of JUI-F, Syed Ahsan Shah of BNP-Awami, Engineer Zamrok Khan of ANP, Deputy Parliamentary leader of PPP Ali Madad Jatta and other legislators attended the meeting and expressed complete trust in the leadership of CM Raisani.

They said despite a number of hurdles the incumbent provincial government was completing its constitutional tenure and had carried out unprecedented development in the province.
