KARACHI – Police on Sunday registered a case of the mysterious blast in an intercity bus in Cantt area at least 30 hours after the incident. At least seven people were killed on the spot and over 50 others were injured in the explosion occurred in a passenger bus outside the Cantt railway station. Since the blast occurred, there was no concrete evidence to prove the nature of it as earlier police officials informed the media about their different opinions. They first said it was a CNG cylinder explosion. Later, they said it was an explosion of compressor of air conditioner. But the scenario changed after police officials managed to obtain footages from closed-circuit cameras. According to police officials, the footages suggest that the blast took place after a suicide bomber hit the bus and the body parts that were taken to Jinnah Hospital were of the bomber. They said they were now trying to ascertain the motive behind the incident. Frere police have registered FIR No 149/12 against unidentified persons 30 hours after the incident. IGP orders strict security for Imam Hussain (RA) chehlum: The law-enforcement agencies will ensure foolproof security arrangements through concentrated efforts for protection of the mourners in processions and majalis which will be organised on the eve of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in the city.Reviewing a report about security plan for Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) chehlum on Sunday, the Sindh Police chief directed officials to adopt strict security measures on the eve of the chehlum.The IGP directed that besides security of mourners, meaningful measures be taken for security of the people. Monitoring of the main procession from the watch towers as well as deployment of the security personnel at the roof-top on the high-rise buildings on the route of main chehlum procession will also be ensured.According to a press release issued on Sunday, The monitoring of the chehlum procession from the command and control centre in the Central Police Office and from the Monitoring Room at Nishter Park will also be performed. It said that the concerned SDPOs and SHOs would ensure the implementation of the directives with regard to chehlum security plan. The security plan said that district and divisional SSPs and SHOs would ensure close coordination with the ulema in connection with the establishment of peaceful environment.The DIG Traffic is directed to make necessary arrangements and deploy the traffic police personnel to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the eve of chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
