PESHAWAR – The Levies Force personnel who were abducted and killed by Taliban were laid to rest on Sunday amid tight security. A large number of people participated in their funeral prayers. The funeral prayers were offered in Kohi Hassan Khail Jana Kor area where victims were residing. Most of the victims belonged to Frontier region Peshawar as the Levies Force personnel are mostly recruited from the local population. The militants had thrown bodies of the troops at Jabi area late on Saturday night. On intimation, officials of the political administration reached the site and shifted them to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Two securitymen including an injured managed to escape from Taliban captivity. The injured is under treatment at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. The bodies were shifted to Khyber Medical College for post-mortem and later dispatched to their respective villages in Frontier Region Peshawar. It merits mentioning here that on Wednesday night militants had kidnapped 23 personnel of Levies Force from their hostel in Hasan Khail area. Two security personnel were killed and 23 were abducted in attack. Later, a Jirga of political administration led by Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar and tribal elders was convened in which the tribal elders assured that they would hold dialogue with militants for the safe recovery of 23 security personnel. In the wake of deteriorated law and order situation police and Frontier Constabulary beefed up security in adjacent areas of Khyber Agency and Frontier Region Peshawar. Heavy contingent of police and FC were deployed to avert any untoward situation. Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has strongly condemned the killing of Levies jawans and said the elements involved in the heinous crime will be brought to justice. "This is a worst act of cruelty and a serious threat to writ of the state and the elements involved do not deserve any sympathy or soft corner. The law of the land has to be invoked with full force to nab them at the earliest possible time,” he said.
