LAHORE: The Punjab Youth Affairs Department launched Adolescent Development Policy Framework which will provide a broader guideline to department for devising action plan to address the issues of adolescent.

Dr Irfan Ahmd, Health Advisor Plan International, in an consultative meeting on Monday, shared that age bracket from 10 to 19 was most vulnerable years of a persons’ life. “A young person of this age is maturing physically, sexually, and psychologically. How these years are spent and treated, determines the rest of an individual’s life- So if they are not supported and guided we can lose a vibrant generation that could play a crucial role in future human development.”

Secretary Youth Affairs Department Government of the Punjab Mohammad Khan Kitchi, in his key address, shared important to address the needs of adolescents as a specific group because they are the future leaders of tomorrow. Their smooth transition into a productive adulthood is dependent on their experiences while growing up. It is essential, therefore, to formulate polices and design strategies that are specific to the needs of the adolescents in Punjab, he said.

Punjab Minister for Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan shared that Punjab was the only province which had developed its Youth Policy in 2012 which reflected the seriousness of government to address the issues of youth in province. Youth Affairs Department has also set up tool free Youth Helpline to provide guidance and counseling services to Youth & Adolescent. –STAFF REPORTER

Youth Internship Program is also designed to provide the technical knowledge and skills to Youth which will ultimately contribute the reduction of poverty, he said.
