LAHORE - Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan said on Monday that the ongoing Punjab Games were illegal as a parallel body of Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) was behind this event.

“There is no legal status of these games in the eyes of POA as a parallel group of PbOA is patronizing them and this event is only causing confusion and not useful for sports in the province,” he said this after inaugurating the National Wrestling Championship.

He said these games were causing further damage to the sports in the country. “Such a situation is not good for our national sports scene as it is creating a bad image of the country. We are in constant touch with the IOC and we are updating them on day-to-day development in our sports and on allied issues.”

He said the POA was the genuine Olympic committee in Pakistan and the IOC was fully supporting it on every issue. “I am confident that the present uncertain situation in national sports will soon improve with the backing of the IOC.”
