ISLAMABAD - Two British lawyers Monday said that they would observe the trial of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in high treason case before a special court and UN as well as other international human rights organisations would be kept updated in this regard.

Toby Cadman and Raza Anjum, both UK based lawyers, said this while addressing a press conference here at a local hotel along with Barrister Saif, one of the members of Musharraf's legal team defending charges of high treason against him before the court.

Both the lawyers said that they would observe the whole trial of special court just to see whether or not the trial was being done in a fair and transparent manner.

They said that they would continue making reports about the proceedings of the trial and these would be presented to the UN and other international human rights bodies.

INP adds: Former president general (retd) Pervez Musharraf has said that he leaves it to the army chief that how far he will go in his defence in the treason case against him.

In an interview with BBC, Musharraf claimed that the army was concerned and offended over the issue. He said the Pakistan Army is a disciplined force and he has spent good and bad days with the army and also fought wars.

To a question that how far the army will go to save him, Musharraf said opinion is sought within the army, but it is the army chief who makes the final decision. "I leave it to him that what will he do," the former military ruler said.

treason: Bilawal

PPP chairman Bilawal Zardari has said that defending former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in treason case is also treason.

In a message on a social media website, Bilawal wrote, "Musharraf's defence in the treason case is also treason. Attempts to incite armed forces to come to his aide are desperate and disgusting."

Musharraf on Sunday had said that all-powerful military was upset for his trial under treason charges, claiming that army is backing him.

The former army chief, who is also the head of his party – All Pakistan Muslim League, has been summoned by a Special Court in high treason case on the charges of subverting the Constitution and imposing emergency in November 2007.
