RAWALPINDI  - A large number of women on Monday blocked GT Road in front of SNGPL head office to protest against suspension and low pressure of gas at several localities of Adyala Road.

Enraged by suspension of gas in the morning and persistent low pressure for several weeks in the areas of Dhoke Juma, Dhoke Kalhoor, Mumtaz Colony, Tulsa and Dhoke Haji Niaz Ali, the women gathered outside SNGPL Office at Soan and blocked the main GT for about an hour. They were holding placards and banners and chanting slogans against Punjab government and SNGPL high-ups.

The protesting women complained that their children and spouses had been going to schools and offices without breakfast for the last few days. They said that they had to buy food from hotels for breakfast and dinner because they could not cook at home due to the low gas pressure. “My husband is a labourer with Rs 400 daily income. No gas has been available for the last many days. I cannot buy wooden fuel to warm water and prepare food for my family. The government should solve this problem on urgent basis,” Saira Khatoon, a housewife said. The protesting women threatened to expand their protest with their children and husbands if the government and SNGPL did not solve their problem.
