CM wants IT use for police reforms

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on Tuesday which reviewed law and order situation and security arrangements in the province.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that all out measures have been adopted for the protection of life and property of citizens. He directed that police should perform its responsibilities towards maintenance of public peace in an efficient manner and close coordination should be ensured with the concerned institutions.
Shahbaz Sharif said that information technology should be fully utilised with regard to reforms in the police system and a polite attitude should be shown to the common man in police stations. He further directed that a comprehensive plan should be evolved regarding reforms in police system and proposals of concerned experts and institutions should also be acquired for this purpose.
He directed that foolproof security arrangements be completed in all government and private educational institutions as early as possible and implementation of the security plan evolved for schools, colleges and universities be ensured at any cost.
The chief minister issued instructions for effective monitoring and checking of the security plan and said that extraordinary measures are needed in extraordinary situations. He said that no compromise would be made on protection of life and property of citizens and foolproof security of educational institutions.  Shahbaz Sharif said that ban on display of firearms should be strictly implemented and stern action should be taken over its violation. He said that special attention should be paid to the checking of entry and exit points of the province.
Inspector General Police gave a briefing on law and order situation and reforms in police system. Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Provincial Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada, Member Provincial Assembly Rana Sana Ullah, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, President PML-N Qatar Rashid Butt and Information Secretary Hammad Farooqi met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday and presented a cheque for Rs 25 lakh towards Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund on behalf of PML-N Qatar.
The delegation strongly condemned Peshawar tragedy and expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of children and teachers. The chief minister told the visitors that terrorists showed the worst kind of barbarism against innocent children in Peshawar and every citizen is grieved at this brutal act of terrorism. He said that time has come to rid Pakistan of the scourge of terrorism and the whole nation has become united to root out this menace.
