The Punjab chief minister has assured the worker, whose one hand and fingers of the other hand were allegedly chopped off by a landlord and his three companions that he would be provided with justice and police protection as he complained of threats by the accused.

The CM ordered Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera to constitute an inquiry committee to probe the inhuman and brutal incident impartially and transparently so that the accused would be given deterrent punishment if the accusation proved.

Mr Shahbaz Sharif arrived at Karamullah Chowk on Sheikhupura road Hafizabad by a helicopter. Then he along with different officials went straight to the residence of fieldworker Abubakar alias Akram and his father Muhammad Siddique. He expressed his sympathies with them and presented a cheque of Rs1 million. He assured them that the victim would be provided employment and artificial hands.

He ordered the IG to constitute inquiry committee consisting of honest and competent police officers to probe thoroughly the incident.

Siddique, father of the victim, told the CM that the accused chopped off his one hand and fingers of other hand due to his refusal to work in his fields. He further told the DPO that some influential persons were threatening him with dire consequence. The CM assured him that the accused would face strict legal action and they would be provided full protection.

DPO Hafizabad Shakir Hussain Dawar briefed the CM that he had already constituted a team headed by an SP who had started investigations on Monday soon after the registration of FIR lodged by the father of the victim. All the four accused Asad, Ehsanullah and two others have already been arrested, he added. As per some villagers of Wachoki, the hands and fingers of Abubakar alias Akram were cut off while he was cutting fodder in the machine placed in the outhouse of ex-nazim Israrul Haq on October 22. Later, they added, his son Asad had shifted him to the DHQ Hospital Hafizabad by calling Rescue-1122, where they got him admitted and medical treatment by spending huge money.

They contradicted the version of Siddique and questioned that if the hand and fingers were chopped off by Asad and others why they had not reported the same to the police at the time of his shifting to the hospital.

They further said that the allegations after the lapse of over two months seemed to be fabricated and afterthought only on the behest of political rival to implicate the accused in the case. They demanded impartial enquiry by honest police officers to ascertain the real facts of the incident.
