LAHORE - Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has asked for the formation of new provinces to control terrorism and improve the governance.

In a statement issued from PAT head office yesterday, the PAT chairman added the larger provinces were just a consumer market for the rulers. “The new provinces should be formed on administrative basis.

“The puppet election commission and the one-man show are the main reason for the destruction of the country and society,” he alleged. He said the PAT would continue its struggle to change the “corrupt system”.

Dr Qadri further said it is evident from the fact that the rulers continue to spend billions on motorways, metro trains and buses while over 70 per cent of the population of the country live under the line of poverty.

“Children are dying in hospitals due to the non-availability of ventilators and shortage of medicines. These mega projects are actually mega corruption projects. The poor are not the priority for the rulers.

“Due to massive unemployment the educated youth are forced to turn into criminals. There is a severe shortage of teachers and other basic facilities in educational institutions,” he regretted.

Talking about the control on terrorism in Punjab, the PAT chairman said that those who have been denying the presence of ISIS, or Daesh, in the country and now themselves issuing statements about the arrest of its affiliates from different parts of the country. “Such statements are causing unrest among the people and are a confession of the incompetence and failure of the government,” he added.
