Islamabad - Around 3,500 security personnel would be deployed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure foolproof security and keep an eye on anti-social elements on the eve of New Year.
The celebrations would start tonight for which Islamabad police have devised an elaborate security plan in the city. Traffic police will also coordinate with the city police to maintain law and order and control traffic on the occasion, an Islamabad police spokesman said yesterday.
Inspector General of Police Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has also issued directions to deploy police contingent at important places, shopping centres and main markets for the safety of public on the eve of New Year. He said that around 1,500 policemen would be deployed to ensure foolproof security. He said that people should behave as civilised citizens and avoid any irresponsible activity on the occasion.
Following directions of the IGP, the SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani made security plan and decided to depute police contingent at all important places, shopping centres and main markets of the city. The deployment would be made at Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Blue Area, Karachi Company, sectors F-10, F-11, G-10 and G-11, Faizabad, Aabpara Market, Shakarparian, IJP Road and Islamabad Expressway. Police commandos will be also deployed at different places apart from patrolling by DSPs, inspectors and provision of more strength to police stations. All the police stations have been directed to keep foolproof security arrangements in their area of responsibility while special ITP teams have been made to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the occasion, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, some 2,000 police personnel will perform security duty to avoid any untoward situation on the eve of New Year in Rawalpindi.
The security personnel would also be assisted by officials of ladies police, Special Branch (SB) and Elite Force commandos to maintain law and order, informed police spokesman SI Imran Haider yesterday.
According to him, Rawalpindi police have devised a comprehensive security plan to guard the events as well as general public on the occasion of New Year night in the city. He said that special check posts would be placed on all the entry and exit points of the city to check the suspected elements. “Strict action will be taken against those found involved in one-wheeling,” he said adding that all the special teams of police would conduct search of all the hotels and motels to purge the city of any terror suspect. “Extra police force has also been deployed around the churches and other minority worship places while walkthrough gates will also be installed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police decided to launch grand operation against the one-wheelers and those found showing stunts on vehicles on roads.
