FAISALABAD - Inaugurating a mobile healthcare unit, an initiative of the Liver Foundation Trust, at the

Faisalabad DHQ Hospital on Monday, Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan

asserted that the Punjab government has been pursuing revolutionary policies to strengthen the health sector.

“The government has introduced mobile hospitals to provide healthcare facilities to the people of remote areas at

their doorstep,” said the minister while adding that all-out resources were being utilised to provide quality medical

treatment facilities in the province.” He said the mobile healthcare unit at the DHQ was a remarkable step that

would offset burden on public hospitals.

The minister urged those affluent to come forward to serve the humanity and extend their cooperation for

providing treatment facilities to the poor at their doorsteps.

Speaking on the occasion, Liver Foundation Trust Chairman Dr Zahid Yasin Hashmi said that four mobile

healthcare units would be arranged under the foundation at a cost of Rs160 million. He said the mobile healthcare

unit was a mini-hospital having facilities of ECG, ultrasound, x-ray machine, laboratory and dispensary. The

facility of minor medical procedure of liver patients would also be available at the unit, he said and added that a

health education programme would also be a part of the unit for creating awareness among the general public

about precautionary measures for avoiding hepatitis diseases.

Hashmi said that funds of Rs120 million had been spent on the construction and renovation of the liver centre

with the cooperation of local philanthropists, while free medicine for the treatment of hepatitis C had been

provided to deserving patients with an amount of Rs 95 million.  About 247,413 liver patients had been treated at

the outdoor patient section, while medical treatment facilities had been provided to 20,162 patients at the indoor

section of the liver centre during the year 2011.
