LAHORE – Protest of the Civil Aviation Authority employees, working in the Air Traffic Control Section entered into third consecutive day causing delays in national and international flights, an office bearer of Pakistan Air Traffic Controllers Guild (PATCG) said on Monday. It is worth mentioning here that ATC employees have started ‘Go by the book’ in protest to get ATC allowance promised by CAA authorities. Secretary General PATCG, Afzal Shahid said that they were in contact with Secretary Defense, in this regard for the acceptance of their demands. He said that about 700 flights as International Transit Traffic use airspace of Pakistan daily within 24 hours which were affected due to strike of PATC employees protest. To a question he said that they have started working as per ‘go by book’ and ended extra services being rendered to CAA.

The employees were of the view that there demand was genuine for the implementation of their already approved and being provided to controllers worldwide. They claimed that ATC officials were performing duties by fastening black ribbons on their arms. The protesting employees were demanding allowance up to 125 percent which was approved by the executive committee and a proposal in this regard was put up to CAA Board. An Employee said that CAA board was authority to implement the allowance which was approved by Executive committee about two years ago. Another official said that Board was authorized to implement the same with the consent of Finance department. However a senior officer of CAA said that, ‘Go by book’ policy would not affect flight operation since they were already performing duties as per ‘go by book’. He said that officials performing duties in Aerodrome Tower Control, approach control Radar, approach control procedure, Approach Area Control and Area Control Procedure were affectees of the issue.
