A cargo ship carrying rocket parts ploughed through a bridge in Kentucky, US, leaving a 300-foot gap in the middle of the structure.  The 312-foot-long Delta Mariner struck the Eggner Ferry Bridge in Benton, Kentucky. The ship was too tall to pass under the structure, and destroyed two sections of the bridge.

Aerial footage shows twisted metal and slabs of tarmac stuck to the front of the vessel as it sailed down the Tennessee River en route to Cape Canaveral in Florida. Four cars were on the bridge at the time of the collision but no injuries were reported.

The bridge was built in the 1930s and is used by around 2,800 vehicles each day. –TG
