QUETTA - The National Accountability Bureau Balochistan chapter has sought the detailed report of Rs1 billion contract for the purchase of machinery for hospitals.Sources said the provincial government allocated Rs1 billion in the 2010-11 budget for the purchase of modern machinery for government hospitals. They said 30 district headquarters hospitals had to be provided with machinery but this amount had lapsed.“Only 15 days were left when the then health secretary was ordered to purchase machinery but he rejected to do so because the purchase is done through open tender and it needs 120 days to meet the criteria of tender,” they added. The sources said again it was decided by the high-ups of the department that the tender would be given to a company, Siamon, without making the tender open. However, the NAB had taken the notice and sought a complete report in this connection. The authority had also dispatched a letter to the chief secretary for making the contract open forthwith and asked that the contract be brought to the media transparently.
