LAHORE - Danish Atlas Khan and Farhan Mehboob qualified for the DCO Lahore National Squash Cup 2016 final after registering contrasting victories against their respective rivals here at the Punjab Squash Association (PSA) squash courts on Saturday.

The most entertaining and challenging clash was witnessed between Danish and Sheikh Saqib who fought for each and every point in the first semifinals. Saqib was enjoying full support of crowd, which put extra pressure on Danish, who in response utilized all his skills and experience to not only handle the pressure but also to tame the high-flying Saqib.

The semifinal started at high pace as both the semifinalists played quality squash but Danish proved tough nut to crack for Saqib who played best squash of his entire career which was also accepted by his opponent later. When the score reached 9-9, Danish exhibited his prowess and took the first game 11-9. Saqib fought really hard and played exceptionally to clinch the second game 12-10.

The third game also proved a tough battle between the two as they played for each and every point and leveled the score at 8-8. At that moment, Danish took two minutes to think how to control the game and then played superb squash and tamed Saqib to win the third game 11-8. In the fourth and last game, Danish took little time to outpace Saqib and clinched the game 11-5, thus booked his berth in the final.

In the second semifinal of the day, Farhan Mehboob registered an easy win against his younger brother Waqar Mehboob 3-0 in just 13 minutes. Farhan, who was highly experienced and one of the top national squash players, played well against his brother Waqar beating him in the first game 11-4, in second game 11-3 and in the third game 11-5 to set final clash against Danish Atlas.

In the women’s singles semifinals, Riffat Khan registered victory against Rushna Mehboob 3-1 in 29 minutes with the score of 4-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4. The second semifinal witnessed Madina Zafar outpacing Saima Shoukat 3-0 in 21 minutes with the score of 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 to book berth in the senior’s final for the first time in her career where she will take on Riffat.

Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana will grace the final as chief guest while DCO Lahore Capt (R) M Usman Younis, squash legends Jahangir Khan and Gogi Allauddin, Punjab Squash Association (PSA) president Malik Amjad Noon, VP Admin Tariq Rana, Lahore District Squash Association (LDSA) secretary Mamoon Khan, DO Sports Nadeem Qaisar, DSO Tanveer Shah along with other dignitaries and squash lovers will witness the thrilling final. Today (Sunday), Danish Atlas Khan will take on Farhan Mehboob in men’s singles final at 2pm while Riffat will vie against Madina Zafar in the women’s singles final at 12pm.
