Quetta - Security forces on Saturday killed five suspected militants belonging to an outlawed militant group in Balochistan city of Mastung.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said the paramilitary Frontier Corps killed the suspected militants overnight in an operation near the provincial capital, Quetta.

Bugti identified the slain commander of the group as Abdul Mannan, saying he was a medical doctor who took part in terrorist operations for the separatist group named as the Baloch Nationalist Movement.

According to security sources, on a tip-off regarding the presence of militants, personnel of security forces and intelligence agencies raided Kali Datu area. The militants started firing at the security personnel and in retaliatory fire, five of them were killed.

A huge cache of weapons, important documents and a computer were also recovered from the militants’ hideout. The group had allegedly been involved in terrorist attacks on security forces.

Baloch nationalists have been fighting the central government for years, demanding more rights for the restive region.

Last month, one soldier died and four others were injured in a bomb explosion at a paramilitary checkpoint in Quetta.
