islamabad - The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council will make surprise visits to all teaching medical colleges to keep a check on the treatment and teaching standards and decide about their recognition afresh.   

Launching the exercise, President PM&DC Prof. Dr Shabir Lahri along with Dr Farrukh Eijaz, Member Executive Committee conducted a surprise visit to the HBS medical and dental collage Islamabad yesterday and examined the facilities being provided to the students and standard of education.

Showing displeasure over the deficiencies, the president PM&DC directed for re-inspection of the college.

The PM&DC had received many complaints regarding the deficiencies of HBS medical and dental colleges. “To address these deficiencies I decided to personally visit the college to have a look on these issues,” said the newly elected president. He said that the standard of the college was not up to the mark as per minimum criteria of Council and for training 100 MBBS students.

He said that the council would make surprise inspections to check the standards of all the colleges which are already recognised by the PM&DC and the colleges which are going to be recognised. “These measures are being taken in order to maintain standard of the medical and dental colleges”.

He added that PM&DC will not compromise on the quality and laid down standards of the medical and dental colleges. He said all the colleges who will not improve their working standards, will be closed down and strict action in this regard will be taken without any compromise.  “It is time that all colleges should start nurturing the quality of studies,” he added.

He emphasised that all the stakeholders of private medical and dental colleges to ensure not to take any political or influential pressure against merit and should put their house in order. He also added that all the medical and dental colleges should have reserved beds in their hospitals for poor patients, who cannot afford expenses for hospitalisation.
