Foreigners in FATA

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has expressed a fear that foreigners present in the tribal areas can wreak another 9/11-like tragedy upon America. He has openly admitted not just the presence of the foreign elements but also said that effective action is required against them. So far the government has been ineffective in improving the security situation within the country. The Prime Minister is too busy traveling back and forth between Islamabad and Dubai. Matters are not getting any easier as the international community loses patience with us due to our inept handling of the security situation. The volatile security situation will be the major factor preventing the foreign investors from coming into this country. Negotiations are not an answer. We have to fighting these foreign elements and cleanse our system of this malice. Pakistan cannot afford to harbour these elements. -DAWOOD SHAKIL, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, July 15.
