LAHORE - The Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) will announce the secondary school certificate (matriculation) examination result on August 1 (tomorrow). The result will be announced by all the nine Secondary Boards of the province simultaneously i.e. Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Mirpur, Pakistan Occupied Kashmir are also included in Punjab Boards. The Lahore Board will hold a prize distribution ceremony in the honour of position holders at Alhamra at 9am Friday (tomorrow). Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest. Over two lakh students appeared in the Matriculation annual examination 2008, while the result of 9th class under the semester system will be announced on August 25. Almost same number of students appeared in the 9th class under the part system. The composite system has been replaced by the government with part system from the year 2008 and the Part I, Annual examination 2008 has already been conducted. The result of Intermediate examination of the boards will be announced on August 15. Meanwhile a spokesman of the BISE said that the schedule of admission for higher secondary schools and colleges will be issued by the board along with the announcement of results. However, admission schedule prior to announcement of Intermediate examination is being announced only by the universities and autonomous colleges having BS (Hons) or bachelors programmes for conducting entry tests. However, some private colleges affiliated with the board have also advertised admission schedule but none in the public sector. There is also no embargo on advertising the admission schedule by colleges for the first year, as it is going to be announced tomorrow. Meanwhile there are reports that hundreds of students may face troubles due to wrong marking of their answer sheets at the hands of ill trained and unqualified examiners appointed by the board. Such cases surfaced in hundreds in the annual examination 2007 wherein the affected students lodged written complaints and after inquiry their complaints were found genuine. Reports said that marking of 2008 annual examination is done by those who do not teach Matric class nor do they are senior school teachers (SSTs). Instead papers are marked by PTC, EST and SV teachers. Most of them were ignorant of the subject, they are assigned. Similarly in the Intermediate examination too, the board has hired fake teachers for marking who secured teaching experience of second shift classes in some colleges, while they are not regular teachers and are incompetent to mark the intermediate papers. In this connection one Asia Parveen, a teacher working on contract basis at MAO college was caught marking the paper at Central Model School, Samanabad and was debarred. The Joint Action Committee Asatza Punjab has condemned the sub-standard marking of matriculation and intermediate papers and urged the authorities to take notice of it.
