Sindh to provide flour at Rs20 per kg

KARACHI - Allocating Rs2 billion as subsidy, the Sindh government has announced Ramazan Package to provide flour at subsidised rate of Rs20 per kg to people in Sindh. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting cha-ired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House on Friday. Besides allocating the subsidy as Ramazan Package, the meeting also decided that special stalls will be established outside the flour mills, where 10 kg bags of flour will be available at the subsidised rate of at subsidized rate of Rs200 (Rs20 per kg). It was decided in the meeting that Food Department will release 120,000 matric tons of wheat for Karachi and 100,000 matric tons for rest of districts of the province. However, the Finance Department officials told the meeting that a provision of Rs2 billion were to be made available as subsidy for the Ram-azan Package. CM Sindh ordered the authorities concerned to take actions against the people involved in illegal stocking of food items such as sugar, wheat and other commodities. Qaim said that it was the duty of the government to provide wheat to the flour mills during holy month of Ramazan. Meanwhile, the meeting was informed that currently the flour was being sold at retail price of Rs28/kg in the local market, however, Sindh Government will bear subsidy of Rs8 on per kg. It was decided that another meeting will be called to decide the Ramazan package regarding sugar, Ghee and other food items.
