LAHORE/ISlamabad - Thousands of the faithful opted for Aitekaf on Tuesday. The people gather in mosques in their vicinity to spend last days of Ramazan while praying until the sight of the Shawal moon. Law enforcement agencies have made security arrangements around mosques.

In Lahore, thousands of Muslims opted for Aitekaf at Minhajul Quran Aitekaf City, Jamia Masjid Data Darbar, Badshahi Masjid, Jamia Masjid Al-Qadsia, Masjid Wazir Khan, mosques run by the Auqaf Department and mosques in every nook and corner of the City. Hundreds of women also sat in Aitekaf at Minhajul Quran Aitekaf City, Jamia Masjid Al-Qadsia and mosques where separate arrangements were made. Majority of the womenfolk perform the Sunnah while praying in seclusion in their houses.

According to Minhajul Quran spokesman, around 35,000 Muslims including foreigners and women chose for Aitekaf at Minhaj-ul-Quran Aitekaf City this year. Minhajul Quran Aitekaf City is the second such gathering after Harmain Sharifain. Security cameras had been installed at different places in order to be watchful during the Aitakaf.

Hundreds of Muslims including women at Jamia Masjid Al-Qadsia went in to seclusion wherein the management made separate arrangements for them. Jamaat-ud-Dawa Ameer Hafiz Muhammad Saeed will deliver special lectures during ten days. Hundreds of Muslims opted for Aitekaf at Badshahi Masjid and Masjid Wazir Khan to perform the Sunnah.

The administration of Faisal mosque on welcomed as many as 1,200 people. Hundreds of citizens of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi sat in Aitkaaf on Tuesday. Millions of faithful on Tuesday started Aitekaf after Asr prayers in about tens of thousands of mosques across the country.

According to administration of Faisal Mosque, they received 5,000 applications for Aitkaf, however, they accommodated only 1,200 faithful for the holy practice. Big city mosques became the centre of special prayers where hundreds of worshippers gathered for this religious duty called 'Aitekaf,' an intensive worship observed during the last 10 days of Ramazan, which confines to a small place in a mosque or in the house. These worshippers are provided Sehri and Iftari by their relatives to facilitate them to concentrate on their worship. But as a part of worship and regular practice during Ramazan, many philanthropists and common citizens send food items for Sehri and Iftari in the mosques for the poor and needy. As part of security arrangements, mosques have asked the worshippers to submit their particulars to the mosque committees.

As always, this year too, special arrangements have been made for Aitekaf observers to impart them education about 'Fiqha' problems besides lectures from religious scholars.
