LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khan Baig on Tuesday said that all security arrangements have been finalized to ensure foolproof security on the occasion of Youm-e Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA), to be observed on Wednesday (today).

The provincial police chief has ordered the law enforcing agency to follow the SOP (standard operating procedure) for the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram in this regard because protection to the lives and properties of the Azadars is the prime responsibility of the police besides maintaining sectarian harmony in the province.

A police spokesperson said that the IGP stated this while addressing a meeting with the 11-member delegation of Shia community at the CPO Punjab on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by Al-Haj Haider Ali Mirza while Agha Abbas, Allama Syed Waqar-ul-Hussain Naqvi, Afsar Hussain Khan, Syed Hussnain Zaidi, Syed Asad Abbas Naqvi, Syed Sadat Abbas Naqvi, Syed Khurram Abbas Naqvi, and Syed Sadiq Haider were also present on this occasion.

The provincial police chief assured the delegation that all possible measures would be adopted as per suggestions and recommendations of the participants. He pinned high hopes that the volunteers of the community would remain on board with the police to get the favorable results. Members of the delegation told the IGP that as many as 700 Razakars of the community have already been deputed for this purpose.

Khan Baig also directed the field police officers to beef up security in sensitive areas of the province especially in Lahore, Pindi Bhattian and Hafizabad. IGP also directed the officers that special security officials should be deployed at all the entry and exit points of the processions. He further directed that the sniffer dogs and mobile phone jammers should also be used, where needed and required for security purposes.
