KARACHI - Rangers claimed to have held at least five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan operatives and recovered explosives during a targeted operation in Muzaffarabad Colony, Landhi here Tuesday.

Being tipped off, Rangers personnel raided the suspects’ hideout in Muzaffarabad Colony and arrested six accused, recovering two suicide jackets, three hand-grenades, cement bombs and other ammunitions from their possession.

The Rangers spokesman confirmed the operation, saying the accused are affiliated with the outlawed TTP. He said the accused were also involved in the attacks on polio vaccination teams in Landhi. He said the arrested operatives were planning to carryout an attack on the Rangers office in Landhi. Later, the detainees were shifted to undisclosed location for further questioning.

Separately, Rangers carried out a raid at a terrorist’s hideout in Korangi locality and seized huge cache of explosives supposed to be used during the Yaum-e-Ali (RA). The explosives included more than 30 bombs of different calibres including time bombs and cement bombs. However, no arrest was made in the raid. The terrorists had planed to carryout terror activities on the day of Yaum-e-Ali (R.A) to be observed today (Wednesday). Rangers claimed that similar explosives were used in the attack at ISI office in Sukkur.

Meanwhile, at least nine people were gunned down in various incidents of target killing here.

Two friends were shot dead near Khadda Chowk, Ghareebabad within the remits of Malir City Police Station. Qasim Ali and Qadir alias Siraj were intercepted by armed men on motorbikes who shot them dead on the spot. Being informed, a police team rushed to spot and shifted the bodies to hospital for autopsy. Police suspected the victims were affiliated with some extortion mafia as they found a slip for distribution.

Separately, body of a man was found near from Dua Hotel at Maripur Road within the limits of Kalri Police Station. Police said some gunmen abducted the victim and threw his shot dead body at the said place. The body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy.

A man was shot dead in Behar Colony, Lyari within the jurisdiction of Chakiwara Police Station. Police said that unidentified culprits brought the victim on a motorbike and shot multiple times before fleeing form the spot. His body was taken to hospital for autopsy, where he was identified as Abdul Latif. Police suspected that Lyari gangsters are behind the murder.

Another body of a man was found near Mira Naka Flyover within the vicinity of Shershah Police Station. Police said that unidentified men kidnapped the victim and later dumped his body after shooting him multiple times. The body was shifted to morgue for identification.

In another incident, bodies of two men were found from Jam Goth within the vicinity of Malir Memon Goth Police Station. Police said that they found bullets shells from the spot which suggested the culprits shot dead the victims multiple times and later managed to escape from the scene. Both the bodies were shifted to hospital for autopsy and later moved to morgue for identification.

In another incident, a Pakistan Sunni Tehreek worker namely Rasheed Siraaj was gunned down while his friend Imran Shaukat wounded near Allah Wali Chowrangi, New Karachi within the remits of Bilal Colony Police Station. Police said that Siraaj and his friend were attacked by pillion riders.

Separately, a man namely Ahmed Bakhsh was shot dead in Ghans Mandi area. Police said the victim was going some where when armed riders targeted him. Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital, Karachi for autopsy.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have apprehended three alleged kidnappers during a raid and recovered an abducted boy. Anti Violent Crime Cell and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee in a jointly operation recovered 13-year-old Fayyaz and arrested three alleged kidnappers during a raid at a house located near Baldia Town graveyard. Fayyaz was allegedly kidnapped from Baldia Town on July 27 and the kidnappers had demanded Rs0.5 million ransom money.
