Woman axed to death in name of ‘honour’

RAWALPINDI - A man axed his wife to death in the name of honour in Kambrial Village within the limits of Police Station Pindigheb, Police sources disclosed to The Nation yesterday. 

They said a villager namely Zafar Iqbal appeared before Police Station Pindigheb officials and lodged a complaint that his daughter Aneelam Iqbal had contracted marriage with Azhar Iqbal of Deha village some 14 years ago. He stated that he visited the house of her daughter on July 28 and saw that his son-in-law Azhar attacked her with an axe and killed her. He said that Azhar killed her daughter in the name of honour and fled from the scene. Police while taking action registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, dead body of a young girl was found hanging with a tree in the forest of Gujar Khan.

According to sources, an 18-year-old gypsy girl namely Lal Meena went to a nearby jungle for grazing goats and sheep where she was hanged to death by unknown killers. Locals spotted her dead body hanging with a tree in the forest and informed police. On information, police rushed to jungle and recovered the dead body. Later the dead body was moved to THQ hospital for post-mortem. Police launched investigation after lodging a murder case against unknown killers.

ASP Gujar Khan Muhammad Ayaz Umrani told The Nation that no sign or mark of sexually assault has been found and police were trying to arrest unknown killers.
