ISLAMABAD - Agreeing to become part of the upcoming federal and provincial legislatures, the mainstream political parties including PML-N, PPP, ANP, MMA have once again demanded resignation of Chief Election Commissioner and members of the commission for their alleged failure to check the stealing of public mandate in the general elections.

The central leaders of these parties gathered at the National Assembly Speaker’s House in Ministers’ Colony on Monday and discussed the future course of action.

They unanimously agreed that all the parties would become part of the federal and provincial legislatures and would play their due role in exposing the flaws and massive irregularities in July 25 elections.

The meeting was attended by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Kh Mohammad Asif, Kh Saad Rafique, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Abdul Qadir Baloch and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi from PML-N.

PPP delegation comprised Sherry Rehman, Syed Khursheed Shah, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Qamar Zaman Kiara and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf while Awami National Party was represented by Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and Mian Iftikhar-ud-Din.

MMA was represented by Moulana Fazlur Rehman and Moulana Anus Noorani while some other leaders of the religious parties coalition were also in attendance.

The moot managed to evolve consensus on the point that all the elected representatives of these parties would take oath and become part of their respective legislatures as they could effectively play their role for the cause of democracy by remaining in these institutions.

The moot once again rejected the general elections as flawed and engineered wherein the real mandate of the people of Pakistan was blatantly stolen and Election Commission of Pakistan had completely failed to control the alleged rigging in these elections.

The participants reiterated their demand for resignation of Chief Election Commissioner and all the four members of the Election Commission of Pakistan for their alleged failure in dispensing their duties of holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

The participants from all these parties agreed to form a united front in the Parliament and devise their future strategy in another all parties conference to be called in next couple of days in the federal capital.

MMA chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman would be the host of the event which would likely to be attended by PPPP President Asif Ali Zardari.

Some insiders who were in attendance informed that initially Fazl had insisted that to exert pressure they should not take oath as parliamentarians but later on he succumbed to the pressure from other participants who were all of the point of view that they should join the assemblies as they could effectively launch their agitation against rigging in elections from inside the Parliament.

On the proposal of Fazlur Rehman the participants had decided to keep the option of number game open as MMA, PML-N and PPP jointly have more seats in National Assembly than PTI.

It was further decided that the grand alliance of these parties would also approach the smaller parties and groups in Balochistan and also try to take into loop Muttahida Qaumi Movement which had also raised serious allegations in the elections.

The participants also agreed to bring out a white paper in the elections rigging while the JUI-F chief also took into confidence on the decisions taken by the JUI-F central Shoora on Sunday.

The meeting further expressed concerns over the invisible censorship on media and demanded immediate lifting of curbs on media which right now even seemed under pressure not to air reports on the hue and cry across the country on rigging in the general elections.
