Speaker again adjourns PA session as FIA fails to produce Nazir Chohan

Says lesson will be taught to them through a recently passed bill about lawmakers’ privileges

LAHORE   -  Punjab Assembly Speaker Chauhdry Parvez Elahi on Friday adjourned the session without taking up any item on agenda like the last day for not producing ruling party legislator Nazir Chohan by FIA.

The last day, the Speaker made it clear that the session would be convened on daily basis without taking up any item on agenda till production of Nazir Chohan.

As the session started after Talawat and Naat, the chair inquired from the Law Minister that whether the production order for Nazir Chohan were implemented or not. On getting no from the law minister, the chair announced adjourning the session for coming Monday at 2pm.  Jahangir Tareen Group lawmaker had been arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for launching ‘malicious’ campaign against Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shehzad Akbar on media regarding his faith.

He was earlier arrested by Police but was released on bail. The Speaker issued production orders for Nazir Chohan on July 28.

A day earlier on Thursday, Parvez Elahi had said that no legislation of the government will be passed this way. “The assembly session will be summoned daily and only the issue of Nazir Chohan will be taken up until he is not produced here,” he said. Parvez Elahi snubbed the bureaucracy and officials for not producing the MPA in the House and was actually perturbed by this situation for the second consecutive day.

“I issued his production orders on July 28. Why was Chohan not produced in the House? Do they want a fight with the Parliament,” he asked on Thursday. He also said that bureaucracy will not be allowed to breach the privilege of the assembly members and the lesson would be taught to them through a recently passed bill about the privileges of lawmakers.
