The Long March was originally started by the lawyers but was later joined by others like the PML-N, Tehreek-e- Insaaf, Jamaat-e-Islami, civil society etc. It turned out to be a Short March. The main procession started from GPO Lahore on March 15 and ended near Gujranwala at midnight when the government buckled down under pressure and agreed to the demands of the marchers. The government agencies tried different tactics to fail the march and their Dr. Goebles kept feeding lies to the public. But even the government declaration that there was a confirmed report of an attempt to be made on the procession by suicide bombers just like October 15, 2007 attack on BB's procession in Karachi, did not deter the marchers. The government confiscated hundreds of shipping containers and placed them on the roads leading up to the route of the Long March. They blocked all the routes and roads leading to the Constitution Avenue in Islamabad where the sit-in was to be eventually staged. In the end, though, it all proved invain as the swarm of people crossed all the obstacles in their way.
