6 cops including SHO suspended

LAHORE - Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Ch Shafiq Ahmed has suspended six police officials including SHO Lower Mall Police Station for misbehaving with Member National Assembly Malik Riaz on Tuesday. Sources in police said Malik Riaz was on his way to Chief Ministers House with his armed bodyguards to attend special meeting and when he reached Out Fall Road, police officials on a picket directed him to stop the vehicle and demanded the licence of the vehicle and the weapons. However Malik Riaz introduced himself to the police officials and told them that he was going to attend special meeting at Chief Ministers House. But police officials including Lower Mall SHO Nazir Opal andn other five police officials did not pay heed to his request and started body search of MNA and his bodyguards after searching his vehicle and snatched the weapons from the bodyguards of the MNA and threatened to launch an FIR of illicit weapons against them. Sources said police officials checked and searched them for about 25 minutes on which Malik Riaz informed SSP Operation Ch Shafiq on mobile phone about the incident and the rude attitude of police officials. Meanwhile MNA Malik Riaz informed Law Minister Rana Sanaullah about the police attitude and on this law minister directed SSP Operation to probe the incident. After receiving complaints of MNA and Law minister, SSP Operations Ch Shafiq summoned SHO Lower Mall Police Station Nazir Opal and other five police officials including one Sub Inspector Arshad and four constables of the said police station. The SSP Operations after initial report suspended all the police officials who were on duty at police picket and directed further inquiry of the incident. One deAD, 5 injured in roof collapse A five-year-old girl was killed while five others of her family received injuries when roof of a house collapsed at Jia Musa, Shahdara here on Tuesday. Muhammad Anwar and his family were asleep when the roof of their house caved in as a result of which, Arooj, his daughter, died on the spot. On information, volunteers of Edhi Foundation reached the spot and undertook the rescue operation. The injured were shifted to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Protest against price-hike A protest against increasing price of the items of daily use was held outside the Lahore Press Club here Tuesday where the protestors demanded of the government for early relief to the poor. The protest organised by Pakistan Trade Union Federation and Workers Party Pakistan was also participated by a large number of women and children from other parts of the province. They chanted slogans against the unabated increase in the prices of things including petrol, electricity and gas as well as against the unemployment and poor law and order situation. They also raised voice against the harassment and torture on woman maids and women kiln workers and also against the forced ejectment of as many as 1200 families in Sabza Zara Scheme and Ganda Nala Bund Road. Abid Hassan Minto, Abdul Khaliq Baloch, Naeem Shakir, Bashir Zafar, and other led the protest. Speaking on the occasion they also demanded land to the landless peasants of Punjab and right of unionism to the women kiln workers and those related to agriculture.
