LAHORE Former Olympians and international players campaign against the Pakistan Hockey Federation for the teams worst-ever performance is going on unabated. For the purpose, a group of former Olympians and international players held a seminar on hockey at near Liberty Market and lashed out at PHF president and Qasim Zia. Besides, officials of district hockey association also attended the seminar. Former Olympian Khawaja Zakauddin said that after the poor performance of the team in the Beijing Olympics, the PHF held an inquiry and recommended bans for the team officials but they did nothing for their own performance in the World Cup. He pointed out the lack of leadership in the PHF and hockey that was why the team is not giving required results. He further said that the PHF was now being run by people who have the Prime Minister secretariats slip of recommendation and the former Olympians should approach the PM House for betterment PHF. Another former great Shahnaz Sheikh said that he gave several suggestions to the federation after every tournament but the PHF did not bother to accept his advice. He also opposed the foreign coach plan for the Pakistan team and said that the experiment had already failed in India and Malaysia. If the federation believes the performance of the players will improve with the hiring of the foreign coach then they should also hire foreign players, he added. He also demanded an inquiry to find out as to why the coach in his report declared all the 17 players unfit and if that was the case, did they take special children team for the World Cup? Islahuddin Saddiqi said that the PHF by removing the selection committee and the team management did half the work but the person responsible for whole of the debacle was saved. He said that the federation was seeking suggestions but if the PHF accepted one suggestion of removing the secretary, then they would give further suggestions.
