It’s been 40 years since the start of the World Cup. At the beginning of this prestigious tournament we had one team that completely dominated international cricket who were referred to as the ‘kaali aandhi’, they were none other than the West Indies. They won two World Cups in a row under the captaincy of Clive Lloyd. Following the reign of the West Indies, India won the third tournament. They were bravely led by Kapil Dev who beat West Indies in the final to take the trophy away from them. Then came the first time the Australians won the World Cup. Led by Allan Border, Australia stamped their place in history. Little did anyone know at that time how it was going to become a habit for the Australians to keep achieving the feat. After the mighty Aussies came our time. 1992 Pakistan won their first and only World Cup to date. We give massive credit to our captain Imran Khan for leading an ordinary team to World Cup glory. Following our victory, the World Cup stayed in the subcontinent and went to Sri Lanka. Arjuna Ranatunga is still praised for his heroics as captain when they won the final in Lahore. Then from 1999-2007 Australia won three World cups consecutively. The first under the leadership of legendary Steve Waugh and then twice under Ricky Ponting. The Australians were unbeatable during this tenure. The cup came back into the subcontinent in 2011 to India under the strong calm leadership of MS Dhoni. India had won their second World Cup. Two days ago, the 2015 World Cup finished with Australia winning their fifth trophy this time under Michael Clarke. Australia has an outright domination in World Cups, which just shows the strength of their character and the skills of their players. In 2019 we go to England for the next World Cup. Lets see which team joins the ranks of all the teams mentioned above.
