ISLAMABAD - The federal government has appointed grade-20 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service Syed Gulazar Shah as new Managing Director of Utility Store Corporation after Establishment Division finally issued the notification in this regard.

Shah was posted in the Establishment Division and waiting for the new assignment for last few months.  He replaced the Sultan Mahmood who was given additional charge of MD Utility Store in June 2015. After the appointment of permanent MD, Mahmood will perform as Senior General Manager Coordination of the Utility Store.

Official sources told The Nation that there was tussle between Board of Directors and Ministry of Industries and Production over the appointment of permanent MD of the Corporation. They said that the BOD compromises 18 members and most of them are private members and it was main hurdle in the appointment of regular chief of USC.

After taking up the issue by a group of MNAs of the ruling party, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed for immediate appointment of the USC’s chief, sources added. They said that the corporation could not plan the strategy for next Ramazan, which will start from June 2016. 

Sultan Mahmood will retire from the services in June 2016.
