Voting in 2nd phase of LG polls in 65 councils of 18 KP districts today

Peshawar - Balloting will be conducted in 65 tehsils of 18 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the second phase of the local government elections today (Thursday).

According the statistics shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan, 80,57,000 voters would cast their ballots while all necessary material including ballot papers, boxes and staff have been provided to the polling stations.

A total of 6176 polling stations have been set up in 18 districts. Of all the vote stations, 1346 stations have been declared the most sensitive and 2326 sensitive with regard to security.

Similarly, 1318 councillors have been elected unopposed while a total of 27,369 candidates are in the run for various slots in the polls.

It merits a mention here that LG elections are being conducted for the first time in South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai and North Waziristan tribal districts.

It also merits a mention here that the first phase of the LG elections was held on December 19 last year while the schedule for the second phase was changed several times due to a host of reasons.

Emergency control room formed: Emergency control room has been set up in Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Peshawar with effect from 30th March to 1st April 2022 to ensure holding of the second phase of the local bodies’ elections in eighteen districts of the province in a peaceful and smooth manner.

Chief Minister’s Secretariat has issued a notification to this effect whereby Mohsin Iqbal, Deputy Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, has been nominated as focal person/in-charge of the control room.

As per the notification, the emergency control room will coordinate with all kinds of activities, informations and emergencies with the relevant stakeholders; and will bring the relevant information into the notice of the Chief Minister till finalization of the election in order to prevent any untoward incident during the polls.
